Well you made it to another FAT TUESDAY, SHROVE TUESDAY, MARDI GRAS, etc. Congratulations! If you're like most, this day didn't look very different from every other day of your life. Let's be honest, indulging in life's pleasures was rampant, entertainment was aplenty and the day was replete with with "what can I eat?" You are like every other Joe and Jane Catholic if you spent the day this way. Hard to think of the strong contrast of what the morrow would bring for us all. Ugh! Lent again...
I know...here comes the monkey on our collective backs for the next 47 days! Right! NO! It's more than that, much much more.
Did Lent really sneak up on you or did you see it coming a far off? Is your intellect attuned to the particular graces this season is going to offer you? This should be one of, if not the best, thing to happen to us this year. I don't know what your modus operandi is, but I am all about accountability in reaching my goals. Thus, the Church in her wisdom has given us a season in which to be accountable to the Church, and by her, everyone she is in union with is accountable to us, and we to them. Talk about a powerful revolution if we but make it one! You are thereby taking up the cross of self proving with millions of others! This gets me really excited! I can't tell you what it would take for me to say to myself, watch me, I'm going to be radically disciplined in prayer, fasting and almsgiving for 47 days because I need it to make a transformation. Aside, from saintly examples, it's not the human norm to choose this. I therefore rejoice and ask you to join me in choosing a FIT LENT, one of seeking a deeper connection to God living in us through prayer and grace, a greater casting of our net of generosity in our almsgiving, and a stringent approach to our fasting so as to enjoy fully the feasting! Leave FAT TUESDAY being because this can be a FIT LENT for you. Go now!
